  • You would need to program in the frequencies you are wanting to scan as receive only (no transmit) into the 8 channels of the radio. You would need to acquire the frequencies you need, as well as programming equipment, or take the radio to a dealer for programming. Best regards.
  • Not sure which area this fits best in. Didn't get a single hit searching the forum for the TAD M10 radio. Specifically, looking into how to reprogram the presets in this thing for a buddy of mine. I found a bit of info on the M8 that appears to require opening the radio and removing a jumper to get into 'dealer.

I am a 31 year old father of two with no experience in electronics, engineering, or robotics. My programming experience begins and ends with hours of creating text-based QBasic games with my older brother on our first home computer in the early '90s.

Within the last year, my five-year-old son, with the aide of his older cousin, has taken to Lego in a way that I never did. His ability to design and problem-solve on his own far surpasses mine. Recently, he has shown an interest in robots. My father bought him a DIY foam 'robot' kit that includes gears, shafts, connectors, etc., but all foam and with no working parts. My son was very upset that the robot 'didn't do anything.'

I have always been interested in expanding my knowledge of electronics and have never really given myself one specific hobby to focus on. With my son's newfound interest, I am looking to start learning about the basics of robotics and also begin building my own. My hope is that together we can learn the basics so that as he grows older, he can continue advancing his knowledge should he choose to.

My question is how should I begin? Should I start with books, online tutorials, or should I just jump right in and get my hands dirty? Should I buy a kit or just start with the basics of the electronics such as motors and circuits, etc.?

TL;dr I am an absolute electronics novice. I want to begin learning about and building robots and other electronics with my son and want to know the best place to start.
